Bring On the Cavity Fighters
“Laaaaaaaadiiieeees and gentlemaaaaan, please take your seats and get ready for the fight of the century. In the red corner, standing at 2 millimeters and weighing in at a cool .002 pounds, we have the undisputed champion of the world, Cavity. Who dares take on this menacing foe? We now present the fighters!”
In corner number one, we have cheese. Yes, cheese. Curios how cheese keeps cavities at bay? Casein, a protein found in cheese, offers protective properties that help with cavity prevention.
In corner number two, chewing gum. Sugar-free gum with xylitol is the best defense against cavities. Xylitol is a sugar substitute with powerful cavity-fighting qualities.
In corner number three, candy. Yes, it’s been hammered into our brains that candy isn’t good for teeth. But if the candy is sugar-free and contains Xylitol, kiss cavities goodbye.
In corner number four, red wine. While it contains tooth-staining properties, its chemical composition actively fights tooth decay and other bacteria.
In corner number five, raisins. It wasn’t long ago that raisins were considered cavity creators. Now, they act a lot like wine with chemicals that destroy tooth decay.
In corner number six, using a straw when you drink. Limit tooth decay from forming by sipping through a straw. It limits the amount of sugars that are hitting your teeth at once.
In corner number seven, dental sealants. These form a protective coating along the back teeth’s surface. It keeps bacteria from forming in the pits and other indentations in the teeth.
